Solar Installation in San Diego

Roof and ground-mounted solar for San Diego homes and commercial buildings, permitted and interconnected.

Free Consultation

San Diego has excellent solar conditions and some of the higher electricity rates in the country, which is a combination that makes the arithmetic unusually favourable here.

We install solar as a construction trade rather than a sales product: roof assessed first, attachments engineered, work permitted and inspected like any other structural addition.

What's included

Solar Install

  • Roof condition and remaining-life assessment
  • Shading, orientation and output modelling
  • Structural check that the roof can carry the array
  • Seismically appropriate racking and attachment
  • Panel and inverter installation
  • Electrical tie-in, disconnects and labelling
  • Permitting and utility interconnection
  • Battery storage sizing and installation

How it works

Our process

  1. Roof assessment

The roof comes first - mounting on a covering near end of life means paying twice.

  2. Design and modelling

Orientation, shading and geometry set realistic output and layout.

  3. Engineering and permitting

Attachment and structural loading documented, submitted with the electrical scope.

  4. Installation

Racking, flashing, panels and inverter with sealed penetrations.

  5. Inspection and interconnection

Final inspection then utility interconnection to energise.

What this means in San Diego

Battery storage is close to the default recommendation here. California's export rules now reward using your own generation rather than selling it back, and with San Diego's electricity rates the value of shifting your own solar into the evening peak is significant. Whether it pencils depends on your usage pattern, but it deserves modelling rather than a reflex answer.

The marine layer is the local quirk. Coastal San Diego can sit under morning cloud that burns off by midday for much of late spring and early summer, which affects realistic output modelling in a way inland calculators miss. It is not a reason against solar - it is a reason to model your actual location rather than a regional average.

Salt air matters for anything mounted outside within reach of it. Racking, fasteners and enclosure ratings should be specified for coastal exposure on properties near the shore, otherwise the mounting system ages long before the panels do.

Questions

Frequently asked

Is a battery worth it in San Diego?

More often than not, given local rates and the way California now values self-consumption over export. We model it against your actual usage rather than assuming.

Does the marine layer hurt output?

It affects morning production near the coast for part of the year, which is why we model your specific location rather than using a regional average.

Should I re-roof first?

If the covering is aging, yes. Removing and reinstalling an array later costs far more than sequencing the roof first.
